This collection contains publications, studies, and a scrapbook of the Division of American Missions' Church Work in Negro Communities program (1950-1955); Office for Intercultural Outreach (1956-1961); and Office for Human Relations (1962-1966). Publications include study reports prepared by office field workers Thelma Tollefson and Anna V. Larson concerning intercultural ministry activities and needs in areas of the U.S.; a bibliography on race relations for pastors and laymen (1958); and booklets and papers concerning criteria for determining the effectiveness of churches (1959), and the work of the Lutheran church in interracial communities. Also included is a Negro Missions scrapbook (1947-1957) which contains news clippings, articles, addresses, booklets, and church publications regarding the activities. And status of African Americans in the U.S. The scrapbook also contains material concerning Lutherans' ministry to African Amerincans. Many of the news clippings contained in the book are from Chicago (Illinois) newspapers. It is unclear who compiled the scrapbook.
